Monument Honoring all Combat Veterans for Kansas

A-1-1-KS has been working with the State of Kansas in erecting a monument to honor all combat veterans in Gage Park Memorial, Topeka, KS. The project has been approved and will be dedicated on Veteran’s Day 2011. This Park has numerous monuments and gardens honoring veterans. Americanism lives in this part of the United States! Proof of being awarded the CIB is required if you want a CIB engraved on your brick. This is open to all Branches of the Service, veterans, active duty, family members “in memory of”, etc.

Fort Benning CIB Monument

(Rough Draft of the proposed monument)

Dear Commanders, Trustees and Staff;

As you are all aware our Highly Esteemed Monument to be placed at the new Fort Benning Museum is moving along in design and pricing. We are beginning to finalize arrangements thanks to Bill Cross our National Communications Officer. Thanks also to the Div # 6 Commander and his staff’s excellent help and advice.It is now time for the cost arrangements to begin. As of today we are looking at a cost estimate of approx. 10,000.00 dollars. This is a bargain considering the location of this monument being in a perfect place for Combat Infantrymen to view and be honored. I am requesting that each of you solicit your Divisions and/or executive staff for financial contributions. Checks will be made to the Combat Infantrymen’s Association (CIA) and marked “Monument Fund” and mailed to the associate finance officer at 8381 Arborfield Ct. Fort Myers, FL 33912. I personally will match the Div #6 and Div # 7 contributions because my son and I are both Life Members respectively of these Divisions. I sincerely hope that each Division can raise as close to 1,000.00 as possible. Please commence your work on this project and thank you all in advance. Once the monument is completed and ready for placement we will meet at Fort Benning and conduct an honorable ceremony. After all work is completed it will be maintained by the Museum grounds. There are still some very valuable paver spots available in Asheville and this monument, nor no other monument will ever replace the prominence of Asheville.

Historical Fact

ERNIE PYLE (WWII War Correspondent) once wrote:

“Remember the American Combat Infantryman,

The wind, rain and mud boys.

The guys NO WAR can be won without! “

If you look closely at the back of our new CIB Monument in Asheville, North Carolina you will see that quote by ERNIE engraved there. Thanks to our Past National CIA Commander Jack Wagner who had this quote placed on the back side

On this date back in 1945 this war correspondent was killed by Japanese gunfire off Okinawa. He was 44 years young. If you have been to the PUNCHBOWL on the island of OAHU, HAWAII you would know that Ernie rests there. My dear friend Bud Strople was very close by on that particular date when Ernie was killed.

I just wanted to share this bit of history with you all.

STATUS REPORT

If your request for a brick paver around our National CIB Monument at the Charles George VA Hospital in Asheville, NC was recieved by me before October, 2010, it was installed, along with 550 other pavers.

New installations will be made during the summer and fall of 2011 as we recieve 50 or more donations and paver requests.

We need 200 or more to fill our space. Remember you may buy bricks “in honor of”, “in memory” of family, friends and/or military buddies. It is a great tribute to those living or dead. Please encourage others to participate.
